Set over the course of one school year in 1986, ELEANOR AND PARK is the story of two star-crossed misfits – smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love – and just how hard it pulled you under.

“Because every second feels so important. And because I’m so out of control, I can’t help myself. I’m not even mine anymore. I’m yours, and what if you decide you didn’t want me? How could you want me like I want you?” – Eleanor

I’m pretty sure that every booknerds already got their hands on this, and at the same time, their hearts are already entangled with the couple, Eleanor and Park. It seems very surreal for me to think that after all these years that I’ve been reading contemporary romance, I’ve never felt so deeply in love with the idea and feeling of being in love. It feels like their words keeps on slurring on my mind until it leaves me hungry for the two of them to know how they can overcome the difficulties of being in love and young.
I admit that I’ve never had a chance to have a special guy during my highschool or college days. (By the Angel, I swear) But as Eleanor and Park started with the idea of slowly intertwining their feelings, I guess it really does feels good and magical to stumble into someone who can see what you are.
You see, the idea of Eleanor, the things that forms on her mind, I find it somehow true. I think that’s one of the things that make me feel closer enough from the book. The character sees what they ought to feel without a doubt. But still, she let it hang on herself to be unique. That’s the first thing I loved about Eleanor, her true nature to accept who she is no matter what.
Then comes Park Sheridan who explosively changed everything about what Eleanor sees and feel inside of her. I was undeniably in love with the character of Park. The way his eyes finds Eleanor at the bus, even from that vey beginning , I know from the start that this is a character that definitely blown me away. His thoughts and words are so genuinely makes my heart squishy. (Okay, that’s a bit weird). Park is definitely an epitome of a guy falling in love at a young age and taking full responsibility with the idea of it. He is matured and at the same time looks very childish.
The idea of love within the novel is really striking and easily heartfelt. I mean every chapter of the Eleanor and Park, I keep on thinking the next day that, how can I even reflect myself to be in love and the meaning of life if there are characters inside my head that keeps on battling and struggling to survive the love they’ve really dreamed of. I ache at the same time with their emotions, the sentences will definitely makes your heart race.
Eleanor and Park is a bullseye on my heart. It went straight at the very center of me that I didn’t know that I am capable to have what it feels like to face the problems and happiness of being in love. Beyond doubt, Rainbow Rowell just made a phenomenal characters which easily engraved the hearts of young readers.
“I don’t like you”, he said. “I need you” - Park

  1. Great review for an amazingly great book. I just recently read a review of this book where the reader did not enjoy it at all and I was so sad for her. Sure, a lot of what happens in this book can't be qualified as "enjoyable", but the love story is so sweet and sad and beautiful. I know a lot of people have been clamoring for a sequel, but I'm not one of them. While I'd love to keep following Eleanor and Park, I think the book ending was perfect.

    1. I don't see why some reader don't love the story. Maybe stone-hearts? But I liked it though, its the thing about being young and in love that makes it unique. And just by reading the thoughts of Eleanor and Park, what more can a reader ask for more. I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do. :D
