Synopsis:

The girl known as Gretchen Whitestone has a secret: She used to be part of Adolf Hitler’s inner circle. More than a year after she made an enemy of her old family friend and fled Munich, she lives with a kindly English family, posing as an ordinary German immigrant, and is preparing to graduate from high school. Her love, Daniel Cohen, is a reporter in town. For the first time in her life, Gretchen is content.

But then, Daniel gets a telegram that sends him back to Germany, and Gretchen’s world turns upside-down. And when she receives word that Daniel is wanted for murder, she has to face the danger she thought she’d escaped-and return to her homeland.

Gretchen must do everything she can to avoid capture and recognition, even though saving Daniel will mean consorting with her former friends, the Nazi elite. And as they work to clear Daniel’s name, Gretchen and Daniel discover a deadly conspiracy stretching from the slums of Berlin to the Reichstag itself. Can they dig up the explosive truth and get out in time-or will Hitler discover them first?

"Take pride in your despicable enemies because it means you've stood up for your beliefs."

- Mr. Churchill

Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke is the verge of a thrilling and dangerous expedition for Daniel and Gretchen. Once innocent and circled with rules, Gretchen was no longer the lady they can torture nor blackmail.

The sequel made me ultimately tired in behalf of the characters. To be toppled with rejection, judgment, and conspiracy itself, I am still wondering how these characters were able to execute anything at all costs. Daniel and Gretchen were not afraid of the consequences, they've seen worse and experienced new ones that's far more worse than the first book. They are beaten to the core, emotionally and physically.

Powered with cruelty, judgment, lies and secrets, Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke brought out the creativity of the most important event that ever happened on Chancellor Hitler. I was welcomed into the time full of mistakes. People were merciless and they are surrounded with injustice. From that point, I am still astonished as to how Anne Blankman managed to blend reality with fiction. I'm telling you, if there'll be an award for these criteria, I'll bet all of my cards on her. She doesn't exaggerate the cruelty of the world, she interpret every actions being done with

Although this book has abusive contents, I'm ensconced with it. Simply because Daniel and Gretchen were able to plan and establish their actions and foresee the outcome that may or may not happen. I liked how this book managed to keep me up all night even though the characters were all beaten up to the core.
