The salvation may be Tom Raines. Tom doesn’t seem like a hero. He’s a short fourteen-year-old with bad skin. But he has the virtual-reality gaming skills that make him a phenom behind the controls of the battle drones.

As a new member of the Intrasolar Forces, Tom’s life completely changes. Suddenly, he’s someone important. He has new opportunities, friends, and a shot at having a girlfriend. But there’s a price to pay...

All the technology and progress in the world can't change the fundamentals of human nature. There will always be war as long as human beings are capable of envy, hatred, and fear.
- Major Cromwell

For the record, I am very proud to announce my very first 6 stars rate book! Insignia just gave me a full blown in my mind. I've never felt more alive, competitive and excited when I read it. The characters are so alive and fierce. Their feelings were perfectly made within their personalities and appearances. The headquarters and divisions is utterly astonishing by all means. Every details in the setting of the story were clearly and uniquely described into simplicity. I loved it so much. It's just so perfect I can't contain myself anymore.

Okay, as I was typing my thoughts out of here, I just finished reading Insignia. My mind is screaming out of joy and bursting out of hunger to read Vortex today.

Thomas Raines (Tom), is just an ordinary teenager that skips out in class, prefer playing Video Games or Applied Sims, and eats fries all the time. He always have the same routine over and over. Escape with his Dad then live in new place and survive until the end. That's all it. But Tom wanted more than it, he knew deep inside that there is much more beyond him. It's one thing that I found very astonishing with Tom upon the start of Insignia, his determination to be different.

Until he met General Marshal that brought an unexpected twist in his life. To be recruited in the Pentagonal Spire. The Pentagonal Spire, as I imagine it, it's a highly facilitated and technologically maintained headquarters for all the elite plebes and soldiers. I can't take my eyes on reading it when it started as Tom entering the walls of Spire. It feels like you jumped up beyond the impossible place I might imagine. Maybe I was delusional at some point, but yes, Spire was made into perfection.

Every division displays dignity and integrity. I loved how SJ Kincaid formed out the simple yet exquisite words to describe them.

Vik, his roommate and became one of his first friend or ally is such a quirky, funny and brave man. I loved reading his thoughts, his voice and his jokes or should I say endearment to Tom, Yuri and Wyatt. There is one thing that I specifically loved on Vik, it's his brotherhood to his friends.

Yuri and Wyatt, I also found these two characters to be very quite funny. Because these two primarily shows a challenging personalities. Though Yuri has a malware on his neural processor(Oops, sorry to spilled it out.) he's still got the courage to fight and defeat the people behind it. Wyatt, damn I looked up on this character. She's a prodigal programmer! She can make a virus! You know what? I'm a programmer and I can't make a virus, and that frustrates me dear folks. But as I was reading her every moves and tactics in making whether fixing a malware or create a virus, I felt that I can somehow manage to be like her. Not in a manner in creating a virus instantly(maybe sometime), but the way her mind thinks about programming. His hunger for intelligence. I was happy that SJ Kincaid made a great programmer to be a girl, you see.(Haha!)

The undeniably indulging part of Insignia, of course, none other than the WAR. It's not just an ordinary war, like its full of blood and brutality. Its an astonishing war set in different places and they were simulated to be one of the character in the particular setting. It's  real. It felt very real. The neural-processors, the new found technology and softwares, I was still famished as I end up every chapter.

Insignia displays reality about responsibility, friendship and integrity. It encompasses perfection. I won't be tired on reading over and over. Once you started reading it, you're already simulated as a part of the book. Insignia feels like my portable neural processor and I'm the happiest reader the day it was inserted in my mind, most specially I won't risk on removing it on my mind. Because Insignia is a debut novel you'll never forget. It's phenomenal in every single way.
